24 Hours of Rapelje

25 June 2011

A USA Cycling sanctioned endurance mountain bike race held on the weekend in June closest to the summer solstice in Rapelje, a tiny farming community, about 30 miles from Billings.

The race is coordinated by the local volunteers, and instead of high entry fee and high prizes for the few, the low entry fee provides funds for the volunteer run Stockman Cafe. In return, the Stockman Cafe provides free showers and entertainment, as well as free camping; which is important in a hotel-less town. A pancake feed accompanied by live music is held at midnight.

Classes:

  • Solo
  • 3-Man (3 people)
  • Festival Class (5 people)
  • Carnival Class (6 or more people)

The course is known for its washboards, rolling terrain, and occasional interference from cattle that wander too close to the course.

Here is a map of the course that Bill Martin made.
