The Swank 65 Mountain Bike Journey is mountain bike racing at its most primeval, far removed from civilization and polluted air. The race begins at 2500 feet, and consists of a triad of cloverleaf shaped loops winding around Gloucester Gap in Pisgah National Forest. Rolling over rugged mining roads, fun single track, tough climbs and hell-raising descents, the exhilarating course will test your skills and desire as you explore the devilish terrain of the Pisgah National Forest.
Limited to 200 participants.
Start Time:
A LeMans style start with a .25 mile wooded run will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Race meeting at Start line at 9:45. Every racer must attend meeting. Packet pickup at 8AM. Must have your shuttled items ready by 9:45AM.
Rest Stops/First Aid:
There will be three fully-stocked rest stops on the course. The rest stops have food, Heed Energy Drink, and H20. We have a drop system organized so you can arrange to have your personal supplies at the rest stops. First Aid will be at every rest area and Start/Finish area. Restroom facilities are also at Start/Finish.
Location:
From the entrance of Pisgah Forest at the corner of US 64 and Hwy 276/280 go north on Hwy 276. After 4.5 miles, take a left onto F.S. Rd. (475-A). Travel 475-A for 3 miles, Cove Creek group campground on right.
Parking:
Parking is limited due to rules governing parking in Pisgah’s group campgrounds. Please carpool if possible.
Camping:
Free camping will be available in the peaceful cove around the Start/Finish area of Lower Cove Creek group campground Saturday and Sunday nights.
Fires:
There is one large fire ring. No personal fires at campsites. Cooking flames o.k.
Weather:
Weather mid November in the forest is generally 40-50 degrees around race time and can either warm up to the 60’s or drop in the
low 40’s. Riders saw snowflakes in 2002. Check the weather before you leave and be prepared for all conditions!
Attire: All riders are required to wear a helmet. This race covers some remote locations. Please wear bright colors to avoid being mistaken for a deer or bear. Please no all black attire.
Ride Fee: $100 Includes fully-stocked rest stops, an epic course, a home-style burger cookout finish and a super styley Tshirt.
