The map includes 200 miles of hiking and biking trails, 25 miles of Flagstaff Urban Trails System (FUTS), 140 miles of on-street bikeways, and 300 miles of rideable forest roads; and covers 375 square miles of area around Flagstaff, from Upper Lake Mary on the south to north of the San Francisco Peaks.
Vertical profiles for select trails help users judge the difficulty of a trail before embarking on a hike or ride. All of the trail profiles are drawn to the same scale, which makes it possible to visually compare profiles for different trails.
Shaded relief gives a 3-D appearance to the map and makes topography much easier to read. Contour lines are depicted at an interval of 50 feet.
Streets and roads shown on the map are complete, up-to-date, and accurate.
Trail alignments were generated using a GPS and then referenced against existing sources of information. All of the trails have been hiked or biked by Emmitt Barks Cartography. Scale of sample is smaller than actual map.
The map is 24 by 37 inches in size, folds down to approximately 4 by 7.75 inches, and is printed in full color on both sides of durable, waterproof, tear-resistant, synthetic paper. The scale is 1:35,000 (1 inch = 2,917 feet or 0.552 miles). Click on the image to the left to see a sample of the map.
The third edition of the map was released in April of 2006.
