The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route: South Pass City, Wyoming to Silverthorne, Colorado (Section 3)

The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route, paralleling the U.S. Continental Divide for 2,490 miles from the Canada to the Mexico Border, is the longest off-pavement cycling route in the world. This publication depicts 401 miles of the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. Map A shows the route from South Pass City to Middlewood Hill, Wyoming. Map B shows the route from Middlewood Hill, Wyoming to Silverthorne, Colorado.

The maps include profiles, riding tips, geographical data, backcountry travel advice, general information, and a service directory. The directory locates groceries, restaurants, lodging, camping, and bike shops, both on and off the route.

The Great Divide was never envisioned to be a hard-core mountain-bike trail; rather, from the outset it was intended it to be suitable for loaded touring. Roughly 80% of the route is composed of county, Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) dirt and gravel roads. The remainder is made up of four-wheel-drive tracks and singletrack trails (10%), paved roads (10%).
