Introduction
Hartman Rocks is a year-round playground for many Gunnison County residents. Primarily on BLM and City of Gunnison land, the trails have evolved from game trails, defined by motorcycles, and buffed by mountain bikers. Usually dry in early April and snow free until late November, Hartman's offers eight months of riding, running, climbing, and, during winter, exceptional cross-country skiing. Miles of smooth, sage lined trails with granite outcroppings, offers fast rolling single-track to concentrated slick-rock technical section that challenge even the seasoned pro. Hartman's has a variety of terrain to accommodate novice to expert riders. The best way to enjoy Hartman Rocks is to link trails together. Most of the trails can he ridden in either direction, allowing for a dfferent experience every time. Here's what the local world-class mountain bikers have to say about Hartman Rocks...
"At first glance, I had no idea of the single-track gems that the Hartman Rocks area had to offer; now that I've had a few years to explore the terrain, I realize what a treasure it is for mountain bikers, hikers, runners, climbers, and all other outdoor enthusiasts. There are trails for all people of all abilities, not to mention beautiful views to go with them! We're truly fortunate to have such a fun place to play, year-round."
Susan DeMattei 1996 Olympic Bronze Medalist
"Hartman's is my favorite place to ride on the planet. Period."
Dave Wiens
"From beginner to expert, single-track long distance cruiser to free-ride big bucking and technical decents, Hartman's has it all!. That is nly to describe the bicycling at Hartman's and Gunnison valley area. There are not many other places where a person can do classic mountain bike rides and climb at the crags in one day so conveniently."

About This Map
THANKS! The third edition of this map is derived entirely from GPS data and satellite imagery. The trails represented show what the BLM has now accepted as the trail network. This map would have not been possible if it weren't for the local retailers and restaurants, I extend my thanks to them many times over. This map was compiled using ARC/GIS, which I learned at Western State College during the fall of 1999 from Allen Stork. A portion of the proceeds will go towards trail maintenance and development of Gunnison area trails. Support your local Bicycle club, get involved, and stay involved, it's the only way to save the local trails! In no way does the author claim any responsibility for your use of Hartman Rocks.
