Jenny Ridge, Kentucky
Location: Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area near Cadiz and Murray Kentucky
Directions: Take I-24 West to Paducah. Get off at US80 Kentucky State Road 68, which is the Cadiz exit. Go 15 miles until you cross a bridge (you can't miss this bridge) which crosses over Lake Barkley. Go to the visitor's center for maps to Jenny Ridge and Energy Lake trails.
Configuration: Singletrack and forest road
Difficulty: Moderate
The Good: Moderate grades are suitable for all levels, superb singletrack, wilderness camping opportunities abound.
The Bad: Don't ride when wet - the trail channels water and numerous wooden bridges get very, very slippery.
More Info: Land Between the Lakes 502-924-2000
This 12.5-mile Jenny Ridge trail runs along the historic North/South Hiking Trail through the Land Between the Lakes Recreation Area in western Kentucky. A multi-use trail for hikers and bikers, this is truly some of the best singletrack the Southeast has to offer. You ride along small creeks and springs and past dramatic lakeshore views. In the winter keep a look out for the large wintering population of bald eagles that dot the shorelines. Jenny Ridge is NOT closed during hunting season.
Energy Lake, which is gravel roads mostly, pales in comparison to Jenny Ridge. For more information: call 502.924.2000 or visit lbl.org
Cave-run Lake
Directions: Take I-75 south to the morehead area. You will get off at the Salt-Lick/Owingsville exit. From there you follow the signs to Cave-run.
Description: They have excellent trails, much like the ideal trail you would see in an outdoor mag. There are quite a few trails there, a good beginner trail is called Caney Loop which takes you out over the lake, excellent view, and a most excellent ride.
Otter Creek
There are lots of nice technical trails and are fairly well marked. Horses have their own trail here.
From western Indiana just west of Louisville take the Corydon exit, Hwy 135 S. Follow crossed the Bridge. Follow signs from there. Park will be on left as you are going down a hill.
