I spoke with Greg Prior from dirtworld.com, and he told me that Seattle's local riding is not as epic as the other stuff farther away. He said that you "can't ride out your door, you gotta roof rack." The area around Mt. St . Helens and Winthrop are the two best destination areas for Washington state. Winthrop is in North Central Washington, between the North Cascades and Omak.

Mt. St. Helens has great camping, including free car camping at Mt. St. Helens, whereas Winthrop doesn't have much camping, but has cheap hotels. If you have more time, Winthrop is Greg's favorite Washington riding. It's best to make a couple days of it and camp.

Greg also recommended Tolt McDonald, about 20 miles away from Seattle: exit 22 off I-90.

Tiger Mountain has a killer climb and is also about 20 miles outside of Seattle.

Taneum Creek/Fisher Flats is a nice drive out of Seattle - 80 miles each way. The trail is a 35 mile loop with great views of the Cascades.

These recommended trails are all in the same area near Mt. Ranier, about 70 miles south and slightly east of Seattle.
